Arnott's has been a proud supporter of Foodbank Australia for ten years. In fact, during 2005, the Company donated more than 250,000 kilograms of biscuits and snack foods for distribution to welfare agencies around Australia

To ensure we make a real difference to the quality of life for all Australian families, the coordination of these donations is managed by The Arnott's Foundation.

Helping feed needy Australians
Every day, hundreds of organisations around the country (like Mission Australia, the Salvation Army and Red Cross) collect food from Foodbank and turn it into 20,000 meals for people who would otherwise go hungry.

That’s seven million meals a year Arnott’s and other national companies help provide.

“It’s makes such good sense”, says Foodbank Chairman Enzo Allara. “There are 25 major food companies, and hundreds of smaller ones, which donate their surpluses to feed the hungry. Arnott’s signed up with Foodbank Australia in March 1996 and has been making regular donations of biscuits and snack products ever since.”

Thank you Arnott’s
During 2005, Arnott's donated 253,848 kilograms to Foodbank, which was distributed to thousands of people in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. Foodbank CEO, Bronwyn Boekenstein, says Arnott’s products are a wonderful luxury for people who don’t get enough to eat. “Nothing lifts the spirits like an Arnott’s biscuit or savoury snack. And being able to rely on a regular and very generous supply of Arnott’s products allows Foodbank to provide welfare agencies with much more interesting options.”

“Everyone at Arnott’s should feel proud that their work helps address one of Australia’s greatest social needs…hunger. And knowing you have helped feed a child who might otherwise go to bed hungry, can make your work all that more satisfying.”

Sadly the need is growing. A recent Smith Family report says the number of people who can’t afford to feed themselves and their families is growing every year. In 1990, 11% of Australian adults and 13% of children fell into this category. By 2000, that figure had risen to 13% of adults and 15% of children. That’s one in eight Australians.

So the role of Foodbank, and The Arnott’s Foundation, which coordinates all product donations from Arnott’s, is becoming more important every year.
