To ensure we make a real difference to the quality of life for all Australian families, the coordination of these donations is managed by The Arnott’s Foundation.

In the world today, we produce sufficient food to feed everyone. However, one billion tonnes of food goes to waste while one billion people go hungry. And it’s not just a third world problem. It’s a sad fact that in our lucky country, there are many people who are struggling to eat.

FOODBANK IS AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST HUNGER RELIEF ORGANISATION, PROVIDING FOOD FOR 183,000 MEALS A DAY TO OVER 2,400 CHARITIES NATIONALLY.

 

Foodbank is a not-for-profit organisation that works with the entire Australian food and grocery industry including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers to source fresh and manufactured foods as well as bathroom, kitchen and laundry supplies. Donations include stock that doesn’t meet specification, is close to expiry or excess to requirements. Companies also make donations as part of their corporate social responsibility commitments and cause-related marketing campaigns.

Unfortunately 3.6 million Australians, or 15% of the population, have experienced uncertainty around where their next meal is coming from in the last 12 months – and they are not who you’d think. Almost half of food insecure Australians are employed and 40% of these households are families with dependent children.
